Who we are:
The Baltimore Shakespeare Factory Players are a professional non-union ensemble company who employ the staging conditions of Shakespeare’s time as closely as possible for each production.
Examples of these conditions are:
- Extensive text work (by finding the clues Shakespeare created in his writing we achieve clear and engaging delivery of his wonderful language.)
- Universal lighting (which allows the actors and audience to see one another at all times and results in a highly interactive theatrical experience.)
- Modern music (Sing along if you know the words!)
- Limited set
- Cross gender casting
- Creative doubling
Use of these techniques results in the feeling that our audience is “in” a play, not “at” a play!
The Players currently mount five productions a year: one in the spring season, two plays in rep in the summer season, one in the fall (our “Ensemble Experiment” in which actors direct themselves during a limited five day rehearsal period), and a holiday show in December.
Throughout the year our Company Members lead staged readings, summer camps, workshops, and classes for children and adults.
We believe the best way to experience Shakespeare is to see live productions, so we cordially invite you to take in a show at either our indoor home, The Great Hall (at St. Mary’s Outreach Center) or our outdoor venue, The Meadow (at Evergreen Museum & Library.)
Please join us, and be prepared for an engaging, energetic, and unique theatrical experience that will knock your tights off!
